Clerical Assistant Vacancy

Glenfield Parish Council is looking to recruit a part time enthusiastic and reliable person to carry out the duties of Clerical Assistant.

The role is a varied and fast paced job opportunity. You will support the Parish Manager, the part-time Administrator and also the Grounds Manager with aspects of their role. Candidates should have excellent interpersonal skills and be computer literate. They should be able to work as part of a small team, yet also be confident working on their own initiative. Previous experience in the public sector and in an office environment would be desirable, although not essential as additional training where required will be provided.

The successful candidate will be confident and enjoy dealing with members of the public, as part of the local community.

The work is primarily based in the Parish Office within Park House.

15 hrs – Monday and Tuesday 0830 – 1630 . Flexibility of working will also be required for evening meetings, holiday cover or village events.

£12.10 per hour

About the Council

The Parish Council owns, and is responsible for maintaining over 16 open spaces including Ellis Park, Gynsill Lane Sports Ground and Station Park. We have three venues which we currently let out - Park House, The Annexe and the Sports Pavilion. There are two sets of allotments in the parish - Glebe Allotments off Main Street and the Mill Lane site. With an annual budget of around £507,000 the Parish Council aims to make Glenfield a better place to live and to promote the wellbeing of residents.

Council meetings are held on the third Monday of the month.

Eligibility Criteria

3 vacancies on the Parish Council

Any person interested in filling these vacancies is asked to contact the Clerk to obtain an application form.

The council may co-opt any person who is legally qualified to hold such office, and who is willing to serve provided they are a British citizen, or a citizen of the Commonwealth or the European Union, and are neither the subject of a bankruptcy restriction order or interim order or have, within five years before the day of the election, been convicted in the United Kingdom of any offence and have had a prison sentence (whether suspended or not) for a period of over three months without the option of a fine. Provided the person also satisfies at least ONE of the following they may apply.

  • They are registered as a local government elector for the parish
  • They have during the whole of the preceding twelve months occupied as owner or tenant, any land or premises in the parish
    • Their principal or only place of work during the preceding twelve months has been in the parish
    • They have during the whole of the preceding twelve months resided in the parish or within 4.8 km of it
    • They must also be 18 years or older on the day they become nominated for election.

An application from persons wishing to serve as a councillor need to be submitted to the Parish Manager who will invite applicants to attend a meeting and make a short (3 -5 minutes) personal statement giving the reasons for being interested in joining the Parish Council and what particular set of skills and experience they feel they can bring to the role.

The Council meets once a month, normally on a Monday, for its main meeting at 6.30pm. Apart from sickness, attendance is expected at these meetings.
